Real Action on PTSD

REAL ACTION ON PTSD

Ontario`s police chiefs, through the OACP and within their police services, have been addressing PTSD issues for years. Proof positive: check out our 2010 resolution (http://www.oacp.ca/content/resolutions/view_resolution.html?id=127), which all policing stakeholders and the Ontario Government are actioning.

The Ombudsman’s report focused on our provincial service. The OPP participated in the review and it would have been inappropriate for OACP to have participated, which specifically addressed issues within one of our member services. The Ombudsman has no jurisdiction over municipal policing but has been trying to expand his mandate for years by seeking so-called "voluntary" responses.  Again, inappropriate in our opinion.

Ontario’s police chiefs have been the leading policing voice in policing on PTSD issues. We will remain so.
