Partnership Agreement which will Provide Police Officers in Ontario with Access to the Certified Municipal Manager (CMM) Program
Mon, June 25, 2007

For immediate release: June 25, 2007

(Toronto) – The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and the Ontario Municipal Management Institute today announced a partnership agreement which will provide police officers in Ontario with access to the Certified Municipal Manager (CMM) program with a profession-specific,
enhancement, to accompany the CMM designation.

The CMM is a career education and employment analysis providing a progressive, legally sanctioned credential, governed in Ontario by a Private Members Bill. It captures and recognizes all education and training to date from all sources. The “enhanced requirements” provide access to a
“Police Specialist”, “Police Professional” and/or “Police Executive” designation as part of their CMM. The requirements were developed and will be maintained and verified by an Evaluation Committee of OACP.

“As Ontario\'s police leaders, we appreciate the need to ensure the men and women working in police services have opportunities to gain credible recognition for the work they do,” said OACP President Chief Terry McLaren. “Through this partnership with OMMI, we are helping meet the career-development needs of police service personnel, ensuring specific educational guidance with a police service focus, and complementing OACP training and conference
work as key components of the enhancements.”

OMMI Executive Director, Bill McKim, noted that the partnership with OACP ensures police personnel in Ontario will receive a credential affirming their professional expertise.

“Working together, OACP and OMMI are taking a bold, new step in ensuring police personnel are fully recognized for their work through the CMM accreditation program.” said McKim.

Attached you will find information which outlines this exciting new OACP member service.  You will soon receive a package in the mail providing further details on this program.

Packages with the CMM Application and Police Supplemental Application are also available at www.ommi.on.ca.
