The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and the International Police Association, Ontario Regions (IPA) are pleased to announce that submissions for the 3rd annual offering of the Gimborn Scholarship are now being accepted. This annual scholarship will be awarded to one Ontario police officer to travel to the IPA’s Conference Centre at Gimborn near Cologne, Germany and enroll in a one of the IPA’s specialized policing seminars. The scholarship covers the flight, accommodations, and seminar costs.
Applications for this scholarship are welcomed from any sworn police officer serving with an Ontario police service. The application process is as follows:

Applicant (sworn police personnel serving with an Ontario police service) must submit a short letter (maximum 750 words) outlining his/her police career and education.

The letter must also include reasons why the applicant feels they would benefit from the experience.

Applications must be accompanied by a CV and a letter from an immediate superior officer supporting the application.

Completed applications must be submitted to OACP with a $30.00 fee payable to the “International Police Association”. This fee includes a one-year membership in the IPA.

Deadline for applications are Monday, March 30, 2010. The winning applicant will be notified through their police service and invited to attend the Awards Luncheon at the OACP’s Annual Conference, June 16th in Kingston to receive his or her scholarship. Please note that the 2010 scholarship is for a course in 2011.
