Job Posting - Commissioner, Ontario Provincial Police
Wed, March 3, 2010

Commissioner, Ontario Provincial Police

Home to nearly 13 million people in both urban and rural communities, Ontario is Canada’s most populous province, and the second-largest geographically. Committed to maintaining the safety and security of this diverse population is the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).  One of Canada’s oldest police services, the OPP is made up of more than 8,000 uniformed, civilian, and auxiliary members serving 313 municipalities and the province as a whole.  In appointing a new Commissioner for the OPP, the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services is seeking a proven, visionary leader whose dedication will inspire the confidence and respect of the Police and the community, to assure and maintain public safety and trust in our Province.

An experienced executive, you have the management skills to lead this large and complex law enforcement organization.  Working closely with the Ministry, the community, and other police and security organizations, you will build partnerships and establish a framework to meet the challenges of policing in Ontario’s diverse and changing environment.  Your leadership and integrity will ensure the trust of your community and your staff as you uphold the high standards of professional conduct that have come to characterize the OPP.

Working with your senior team, you will foster leadership potential and encourage performance management systems to bring out the best in every member of your organization.  Working with the people of Ontario, you will lead a police organization that reflects the diversity of the community.  A confident and articulate spokesperson, you will build partnerships with government and community leaders as well as other law enforcement organizations, providing coordinated solutions for public safety.  You invite dialogue, seeking the most effective solutions for difficult decisions through efficient allocation of human and financial resources.  Your background in policing gives you an understanding of the challenges faced by law enforcement today.  You will lead by example to inspire excellence and accountability within the OPP.
