OACP and OMRON Unveil New Award for Excellence in Media Relations for Police

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and the Ontario Media Relations Officers Network (OMRON) are pleased to announce the 2010 inaugural OACP/OMRON Award for Excellence in Media Relations. This annual award is proudly sponsored by 680News and will be presented to a police officer/civilian media relations personnel who has devoted themselves to furthering media relations in policing and demonstrated assisted their police service in fostering good relations with media.

“All our police services have officers who are dedicated to their craft of media relations and corporate communications. They display an unbelievable dedication and loyalty to ensure the public face of their service is well represented in print, radio and television,” said OMRON Chair Sergeant Laurie Perks (York Regional Police). “This award will recognize the tireless dedication and commitment of an individual in an Ontario police service who excels in the area of media relations and whose commitment has improved their service, a program or generally made a difference to police media relations in the Province of Ontario.”

The OACP/OMRON Award for Excellence in Media Relations award will be presented at the OACP’s 2010 Annual Conference and Global Showcase June 16 in Kingston. Submissions for this award must be forwarded to the OACP office no later than Monday, April 12, 2010.

Background – OACP/OMRON Award for Excellence in Media Relations Award

  • This is the inaugural award to be presented annually by the OACP and OMRON  
  • The award will be presented annually to a police officer who has devoted themselves and demonstrated a commitment to furthering police media relations and assisted their police service in fostering good relations with media.
  • The award will be presented on Wednesday, June 16 at the OACP Annual Conference and Global Showcase’s Awards & Life Members’ Luncheon. The conference takes place June 13-16 in Kingston.
  • The award recipient will be invited to attend an awards luncheon and be provided with overnight accommodations at the Four Points by Sheraton in Kingston.
  • The winner will receive an engraved plaque and their name will be added to the “OACP/OMRON Award for Excellence in Media Relations” trophy to be permanently displayed at the Ontario Police College.
