Mon, May 31, 2010

For Immediate Release: May 31, 2010

(Toronto, ON) – Ontario’s top police leaders are preparing to converge on the City of Kingston for the premier event for Ontario’s police community – the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police’s (OACP) 59th Annual Conference and Global Showcase June 13 to 16.

“The OACP’s annual gathering of the Province’s top police leaders is an opportunity for police officials and government decision-makers to discuss important issues impacting police organizations and their communities,” said OACP President Chief Daniel Parkinson (Cornwall Community Police Service). “This conference will provide delegates with educational opportunities and a chance to meet with exhibitors at the Global Showcase, our tradeshow featuring many of today’s newest products and services for the police community.”

The conference’s theme is “Policing in a Civil Society.” Sessions planned for the Annual Conference include:

  • A keynote address by Dr. Benet Davetian, Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Prince Edward Island and Director of The Civility Institute. Dr. Davetian is author of the internationally acclaimed book Civility – A Cultural History and is listed in Canada’s Who’s Who for his accomplishments in the social sciences and literature.
  • Educational sessions on such topics as correctional services issues and their impact on policing, evolving issues in emergency management, and updates on legal issues shaping policing today.
  • The unveiling of the new Community Policing Model for Ontario
  • Update from the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services

“We are excited that police leaders from across Ontario and Canada will be in Kingston for this important conference,” said Chief Stephen Tanner of the Kingston Police. “Our city is ready to welcome these important leaders as well as government officials and exhibitors.”
