RESOLUTION 1999 - 04

RESOURCING AND FUNDING OF ONTARIO POLICE COLLEGE
Approved at the 48th Annual General Meeting held June 30th, 1999

WHEREAS, the Association?s influence was a significant factor n the establishment of the Ontario Police College in 1963;

WHEREAS; it is the responsibility of the Solicitor General to operate the Ontario Police College;

WHEREAS; initial recruit training is delivered by the Ontario Police College;

WHEREAS; the Solicitor General has mandated specific training for police officers in Ontario;

WHEREAS; the Ontario Police College had its program budget significantly reduced in recent years;

WHEREAS, the Ontario Police College is currently not resourced to provide sufficient recruit training positions for police officer vacancies due to attrition;

WHEREAS; the Ontario government has approved a "75 factor" for pension eligibility under the OMERS pension plan which will exacerbate the current situation;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; that the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police advise the Solicitor General of the need to ensure sufficient resources and funding be provided to the Ontario Police College to meet the current and future recruit training needs; and;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; that the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police recommend to the Solicitor General that the Ontario Police College pursue strategies that would provide permanency and consistency for the OPC staffing levels.
