POLICE EXECUTIVE AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Approved at the 49th Annual General meeting held June 28, 2000
WHEREAS at a time when Police Leaders and their organizations are facing extraordinary challenges and scrutiny, the development of future Police Leaders is crucial; and
WHEREAS there has been a decline in opportunities for leadership training within existing formal police learning institutions (OPC, CPC); and
WHEREAS the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police has completed an extensive needs analysis for police leadership training as well as validating the requisite competencies; and
WHEREAS the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police recognizes a critical need for leadership/executive training, both in the short and long term in Ontario; and
WHEREAS it is generally acknowledged that there is not a suitable training option available in Ontario or in Canada; and
WHEREAS the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police is developing a focused, formal police leadership development initiative with a University School of Management.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police request the Provincial Government to provide financial assistance to support the delivery of leadership development opportunities to ensure a continued high standard of Police Leadership and the delivery of quality Policing in Ontario.
