RESOLUTION 2001 - 09

CRIME PREVENTION - DEFINITION
Approved at the 50th Annual General meeting held June 20, 2001

WHEREAS the Solicitor General?s office has created a Strategic Planning Working Group within its Crime Prevention and Policing Program Branch in order to provide direction to police agencies in the Province of Ontario in relation to the application of crime prevention programs and practices, specifically as it relates to Adequacy Standards;

WHEREAS a working definition of ?crime prevention? would assist in focusing the OACP Crime Prevention Committee?s direction for further work within its existing mandate; and

WHEREAS a working definition of crime prevention would also be beneficial to the continuing work of the Solicitor General?s Working Group.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police endorses the OACP Crime Prevention Committee?s definition of crime prevention as ?The anticipation recognition and appraisal of a crime risk and the action taken to remove or reduce it?.
