Crime Management Training
Approved at the 51st Annual General meeting held June 19, 2002
WHEREAS the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police RESOLUTION 01-09 outlines the definition of crime prevention as: “The anticipation recognition and appraisal of a crime risk and the action taken to remove or reduce it”.
WHEREAS the Ministry of Public safety and Security has enacted under the Police Services Act, regulations on the Adequacy and Effectiveness of Police Services, specifically section 1 which mandates that police services in Ontario must provide community based crime prevention initiatives.
WHEREAS the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Crime Prevention Sub Committee has identified the need for front line and police management training with respect to the implications and applications of the definition of crime prevention.
WHEREAS the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Crime Prevention Sub Committee has identified the need for front line and police management skill development and application of the science of crime prevention.
WHEREAS the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Crime Prevention Sub Committee has established a Crime Prevention training Sub committee to develop a crime prevention curriculum for police training.
WHEREAS the Crime Prevention Training Sub Committee has recommended to the Crime Prevention Sub Committee that a tiered certification training program for the continued development of strategic and tactical crime prevention be created.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police supports the development and creation of tiered certification training program for crime prevention.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police seeks the endorsement and support of the Ministry of Public Safety and Security for the tiered certification training program being developed by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Crime Prevention Sub Committee.
