On April 5, 2016, the Ontario Legislature passed Bill 163, Supporting Ontario's First Responders Act (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder), 2016. The legislation deems that paramedics, firefighters and fire investigators, police officers, correctional officers, and dispatchers who are diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are presumed to have developed it as a result of their work.
PTSD continues to be part of a conversation with the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Board of Directors with government officials.
