2026 Lighting the Fire Within Gathering

Join UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service, leading experts, and a dedicated network of professionals as we gather to ignite change and foster deep, lasting connections. The Lighting the Fire Within gathering has become a driving force for positive change—sparking new ideas on how police services can serve their communities through a cultural and trauma-informed lens while supporting their own well-being.

This space is dedicated to everyone committed to strengthening community safety through a cultural and trauma informed lens. We have invited police services, victim service organizations, crown attorneys, mobile crisis response teams, academic researchers, justice organizations, and police service board members to come together for an enlightening two days of conversations.

Our Core Focus

Together, we will share the transformative practices that empower our communities to thrive, lighting the way forward through:

  • Cultural Awareness
  • Trauma-Informed Strategies
  • Mental Health & Wellness

Featured Speakers

Throughout the conference, you will hear powerful stories that inspire new perspectives from an incredible lineup of advocates and experts, including:

  • Deputy Chief of Police, Julie Craddock of Anishinabek Police Service
  • Superintendent Marcel Beaudin of the Ontario Provincial Police
  • Dr. R. Nicholas (Nick) Carleton Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Regina
  • Karen Bellehumeur of Bellehumeur Law
  • Acting Sergeant, Aman Samra of the Vancouver Police Department
  • And many more.
