MEDIA RELEASE

Police Leaders Kick-off Police Week and Celebrate the Theme “Protecting Ontario”

For Immediate Release: May 11, 2025

(Toronto, ON) – Police across Ontario are kicking off the annual Police Week today! Throughout this week, Ontario police services will be hosting events and inviting members of their communities to join them in celebrating Police Week, which runs from May 11 to 17, 2025.

Since 1970, Police Week has been observed in May to coincide with Peace Officers Memorial Day, recognized internationally on May 15. This year’s theme, Protecting Ontario, highlights the vital role that police professionals play in keeping our communities safe and the importance of community involvement in building strong, healthy neighbourhoods.

“Protecting Ontario is about looking to the future with a proactive and strategic approach. This week, we celebrate the work front-line police officers, 9-1-1 communicators, and all police members do to keep Ontarians safe,” said Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie (Halton Regional Police Service), President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP). “Police professional across our province work hard each day with many government and community partners, other first responders and public services, and the public to create an Ontario where everyone can feel safe, supported, and respected.”

The OACP is working with Ontario’s Ministry of the Solicitor General, police services, and community and other groups throughout this week to promote community events that showcase and celebrate policing in Ontario.

Ontarians are invited to contact their local police service to find out more about Police Week events in their communities, visit www.oacp.ca for more details. We encourage everyone to follow along on social media with the hashtag #PoliceWeekON / #Semainedelalpolice and tag @OACPOfficial and @ONsafety on X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and BlueSky.
