Statement on Recent International Military Action and Public Safety in Ontario
For immediate release: March 1, 2026
As noted by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, the recent military actions in the Middle East have understandably raised questions and concerns among Canadians. As Ontario’s police leaders, we are confident that there is currently no evidence of an imminent threat to public safety in Ontario tied to these international developments.
Our police services in Ontario remain actively engaged with their federal partners, law enforcement organizations in other provinces, and national security agencies to monitor evolving global events and assess any potential implications here at home. Keeping people safe in our communities continues to be our foremost priority.
Experience has shown that when geopolitical conflicts escalate, there is always the possibility that such international conflicts could be used to foster division, spread hateful narratives, or incite targeted harassment or violence. We must remain alert to indicators of hate-motivated behaviour or other forms of extremism that could affect community cohesion and public safety.
Preventing harm and maintaining community safety is a shared responsibility. Ontario police services encourage residents to stay aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity through appropriate channels. Accurate information, early reporting, and community-police partnerships help ensure rapid, proportionate responses when risks are identified.
Ontario’s police professionals uphold the rule of law and protect civil liberties while responding to emerging safety concerns. We emphasize the importance of evidence-based policing, transparent communication, and respectful engagement with all communities across the province.
