Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, the Government of Ontario, and Local Communities Unite for Crime Prevention Week 2026
For Immediate Release: November 2, 2026
(Toronto, ON) – The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and police services across the province are proud to partner with the Government of Ontario to launch the province’s annual Crime Prevention Week taking place November 1-7, 2026. This year’s theme, “Protecting Ontario Together,” highlights the importance of collaboration between police, government, community organizations, businesses, and residents in preventing crime and enhancing community safety.
To mark the start of this important campaign, the OACP attended a kickoff event in Toronto hosted by Toronto Police Service to launch the start of what will be a week of community outreach and engagement by Ontario police services.
Crime Prevention Week is part of promoting November as Community Safety and Crime Prevention Month as established by the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Month Act, 2024 to raise awareness, promote partnerships, and encourage community action in preventing crime. It aligns with national efforts and involves collaborations between police, government, and community groups to create safer communities across the province.
“Protecting Ontario Together means recognizing that crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Police play a critical role, but we cannot do it alone. Safer communities are built through strong partnerships among police, community organizations, businesses, governments and the people we serve,” said Chief Peter Moreira, President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. “When we work together, share responsibility and take action to address risks before they become harm, we strengthen our communities and help make Ontario safer for everyone.”
Throughout the week, Ontario police services will focus on many key areas identified by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and its Community Safety and Crime Prevention Committee, including:
- Cyber Crimes: Assisting members of the public identify and proactively protect themselves against cyber threats that can cause significant financial and emotional harm.
- Retail Crime: Working with businesses and community partners to address theft and other retail-related crimes.
- Social Disorder: Addressing community safety concerns and promoting safer public spaces.
- Hate Crimes: Raising awareness, encouraging reporting, and supporting efforts to prevent hate-motivated offences.
- Intimate Partner Violence: Fostering awareness, promoting prevention, and supporting efforts to reduce violence and harm.
Crime Prevention Week is supported by the Ministry of the Solicitor General and police services across Ontario. Local police will host events, educational campaigns, and community initiatives designed to raise awareness about how residents can take an active role in preventing crime.
