We Remember - July 26, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we pay our respects to Tim Smith, a passionate advocate for policing and public safety in Canada, who passed away on July 15, 2024. Tim dedicated nine years to the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), guiding and supporting its government relations and strategic communications efforts.

Hiring Communications Specialist

OACP Communications Coordinator Larissa Pereira will start maternity leave this September. While Larissa is off on leave, the OACP will hire a part-time Communications Specialist on a one-year contract (starting September 2024 and ending September 2025). This position will be based in a home office, with occasional travel to meetings as required. The expected starting date is mid-August. We are inviting members to share this opportunity with their networks.

• Work on the OACP’s Race-and Identity-Based Data Phase 2 has begun under the leadership of subject matter experts from York Regional Police and Waterloo Regional Police Service. At a recent transition meeting with Peel Regional Police personnel (who did an amazing job in Phase 1), topics covered included the original methodology, structure and terms of reference, Future goals, OACP deliverables, and strategy for Phase 2.
