Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) is the charity of choice for the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP). Under the leadership of Chief Frank Bergen, Hamilton Police Service, the OACP's Torch Run Committee supports the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run (OLETR).
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics engages law enforcement worldwide championing acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities, starting first with their own communities. Over the years the Torch Run has evolved and now includes events like the Polar Plunges, Tip-A-Cops, NHL Alumni Games, Torch Rides, Endurance Series and MORE!
Since its inception in 1987 in Ontario, the OLETR has raised more than $46,000,000 and changed millions of attitudes.
As part of this year’s Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police's Annual Conference, the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run (OLETR) celebrated another historic year of support for Special Olympics Ontario athletes, including a record-breaking $3.2 million raised in support of programs across the province.
